New Rolls-Royce Wraith - preview sneak peak

Rolls Royce has revealed the new upcoming addition to to Rolls Royce family- the 'Wraith' (fitting in nicely with other Rolls-Royce names like Phantom and Ghost).

Although they revealed it, they only gave a picture that does not give away much at all

But of course what we can see is that it will be a large 2-door coupe, and Autoweek reports that it will have a 6.0 Litre V12 engine under the hood, which will generate around 600hp.

But come on Rolls-Royce, give us a little more!

BLACK is the new Brutal- Mercedes SLS AMG Black series

Thought the Mercedes SLS was an insane beast? Say hello to the beast on steroids!

The new Black Series is inspired by the track-only GT3, and is probably more of a GT3 car than a road car.
With splashes of carbon fiber in now weighs 220lbs less than the standard SLS, has 8000rpm.  With a 6.2 Litre M159 V8 engine with 631hp (464kW), it goes from 0-60mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 196mph! Alos achieved a higher downforce of 40% more than the normal SLS.

Going for #10 is a 3 way tie, and first up is the Lamborghini Aventador! One of the newest editions to the Lamborghini family is this BEAST, with a  V12 Engine laying down 700 hp and a top speed of 220 mph, and going from 0-60 in a very quick 2.9 seconds!

10. Ascari A10

The Ascari A10 features a 5.0 liter BMW V8 S62 engine with 625 hp, also a top speed of 220 mph and going from 0-60 in a just 2.8 seconds!

When a car is featured in a 'Fast and Furious' movie (Fast Five), you know its going to be fast! 4.7 litre twin supercharged V8 engine giving 806 hp and a top speed of 245mph. Its not the only Koenigsegg in the top 10...

Simplified Explanations: Turbo and Superchargers

Welcome to the very first Simplified Explanation. So without any further ado let's get down to business. First on the agenda: Turbochargers and Superchargers

Firstly, what is a turbo, or a supercharger?
We put fuel in our cars to make the car "go" . The engine works because the fuel is burnt with oxygen from the air in the cylinders, to drive the pistons. This is a combustion reaction. Therefore, the more air there is, the more combustion is possible, and therefore better efficiency. And that is exactly what turbochargers and superchargers do; feed more air into the cylinders.

What is the difference between a turbo and a supercharger?
A supercharger is driven mechanically which means that they are driven directly from the engine.
A turbocharger is driven from the pressure of exhaust gases.

Which is better?
Well, since a supercharger is driven from the engine, it respon as soon as the accelerator is pressed, whereas since a turbocharger is driven from the exhaust pressure, it needs time to spin up to speed while the pressure builds.
Therefore you'd think that superchargers are better, BUT don't forget that they do take out some power from the engine, and just makes more power than they loose so they are effective. Turbos use energy that would otherwise go to waste.
So to sum up, Superchargers are in effect straight away but use power from the engine, and turbochargers suffer from turbo lag but use energy that would go to waste.

BMW and Toyota Join Forces

BMW and Toyota has joined forces to develop new vehicle technologies and a new sports car platform by the end of 2013. With BMW's luxury and performance knowledge etc. combined with Toyota's reliability, hybrid research etc. will ensure great results. By mixing two great companies based in Germany an Japan, will hopefully bring fantastic products and high quality, performance sports cars. The sports car produced by these alliance is said to be along the lines of the Supra's successor. Also, by 2020 a new hydrogen fuel cell system including motor, fuel tank, and battery, is said to roll out, and both companies "are convinced that fuel cell technology is one of the solutions necessary to achieve zero emissions  It is really goo to see two great car companies collaborating and developing great new technologies towards a common goal of creating better cars.

Arab Hypercar - Pricier than a Veyron

The Lebanese made, created by Firm W Motors, the LykanHypersport  is the Middle East's first supercar. Obviously they have high expectations for this car as the price tag of this bad boy is larger that the one of a Bugatti Veyron, at $3.4 Million.

Going from 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds(just shy of the Veyron's 2.5 seconds) this car is set to perform!
Featuring diamond encrusted lights, and a gold stitched leather interior, it is very luxurious. This beast is packing a mid mounted flat six, twin turbo charged motor laying down 750 horses, and topping out at around 239 mph, making it one of the fastest cars on the planet! Also just as an extra touch the $3.4 Million does include a $200,000 Cyrus Klepcys watch.

Replica Batmobile in Gumball 3000

Team Galag, from Saudi Arabia is said to enter a replica of the Tumbler from the latest Batman movies in this year's Gumball 3000. If you think about it, all you have to do is make the guns fully operational and load them with ammunition, to just shoot down all the other cars, and come first. Anyway, the route runs through Stockholm, Turku (Finland), Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Riga, Warsaw, and Vienna.

Old School Batmobile Sells for $4.2 Million

The original 1960's Batmobile has sold at the Barrett Jackson auction for a very large $4.2 million. Rick Champagne who purchased the iconic vehicle, says "it was a dream come true". There is a 6.4L Ford V8 with automatic transmission, and is suspected the power output is a little under the 300kW V8 Chevy used in the latest Dark Knight movie triology, the tumbler. It originated as a 1955 Licon Futura concept car, then was built completely by hand by the Ghia Body Works in Turin, Italy. Congratulations to Mr. Champagne, who can know officially say, 'I have a Batmobile in my garage!'

4 Door Supercar Beauty - Aston Martin Rapide S

The brand new Aston Martin Rapide S, is not just another elegant 4 door luxury sports car. It is the most powerful 4 door Aston Martin super car ever made!

The Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Rez even states  " The Rapide S, is to me, without a doubt, the most beautiful four-door sports car on the market today". He also states "Its a four-door sports car that uniquely combines luxury, style and sporting excitement in Aston Martin's most flexible and accommodating silhouette."

It has 410kw of power, 6.0L V12 Engine, and a top speed of 306km/h. Able to go from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds. But even with improved fuel consumption is still a gas guzzler using a whopping 14.2 litres/100km. It does have a few cosmetic upgrades also, most notably a new full grille, and more aerodynamic qualities  and upgrades to generate greater down force 

McLaren P1

Last year at the Paris Motor show, the long awaited  McLaren P1 was unveiled. All I should have to say is wow!  The P1 is the successor of the wonderful McLaren F1, with similar styling to the MP4-12C, so with such good heritage, and after pretty much ticking all the visually pleasing criteria, I have high hopes for this machine on on how it preforms on the track.

Not much is known about the P1 yet, but we are expecting anything from the V8 of the MP4-12C to a brand new twin turbo V10. It is said McLaren are working with Akebono to create a very efficient braking system. But what   we do know is that the P1 will generate over 600kg of downforce, it will use the MP4-12C's wheelbase and carbon tub, and also a KERS system too. But only 500 will be made. Better set up camp outside McLaren a couple weeks earlier. Just to be sure.
